Loneliness in America 2025

What it found
A 2025 survey by The Cigna Group and Evernorth Research Institute, based on fieldwork conducted with over 7,500 U.S. adults between 29 May and 14 June 2024, found that 57% of Americans report loneliness and 52% of workers report feeling lonely. Gen Z and Millennials report higher loneliness than Gen X and Baby Boomers, despite having greater technological connectedness.
Why it matters for practice
The gap between generational technology use and reported loneliness is worth attention for anyone designing workplace or community interventions, since it undercuts assumptions that digital connectivity alone reduces isolation. Note the lag between the 2024 fieldwork and 2025 publication when citing this alongside more recent data.
